The Nashville Tech Story (4/29/09)

It’s time to let your voice be heard.

No, it is not an American Idol tryout. Each year, we reach out to our membership for their opinions on what we are doing, not doing, and what we should be doing to provide value to you. This year is no different. Below you will find a link to our 2009 Membership survey. Please click here to take our 10 minute survey. It is very important to have your voice heard.

Below you will find evidence that we rely on your input to make program changes. We have listed some of your requests from last year and how we have either already, or are in the progress of completing. It’s not meant to be a report card, we just want to demonstrate just how much we listen to you.

We ask that all survey responses be submitted by May 5. Thank you in advance from the staff. We sincerely appreciate you and your time.

Last year, you suggested several website changes including:

1. Easier to access member’s only area

2. Improved event registration system

3. Redesign website

4. Develop a better newsletter

5. More intuitive job board

6. Create online Blogs

I am happy to report that all of these issues were addressed in our new site. Please visit our site and read some of the blog postings. Are we on the right track? Would you be willing to write some blog posts about the Nashville Technology scene?

Some additional comments from members on what we could do differently to add more value in the Nashville technology community are:

Encourage members to utilize internal services from existing members more.
-Completed. Set up Member Coupon Service on website. Two members have published.

Define and communicate the mission, and then ensure that events are directed toward that mission
-Completed. Brand Print Process completed in January. Launch of new brand and focus

Broaden the types of technology addressed by the council-joint programming with healthcare, biotechnology, etc.
-Completed. Virtual Trade Mission to India with Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Nashville Healthcare Council. InternNashville events with NACC. NTC sponsorship of Digital Nashville, Bar Camp, and Digital Music Summit events.

Raise the profile of Nashville nationwide as a great city for technology companies. Promote tech companies more through media.
-In process. Attended National TECHNA Meeting and participated in TECHNA DC Fly-in. See Blog. More stories in NBJ, Tennessean, Lunch Money, City Paper. Launch of Techville.us.

Help foster more growth in the VC/start up community in Nashville. Networking events and other forums to help technologists connect with financial backers.
-In process. Working with Nashville Chamber of Commerce to create Entrepreneur Center. Created Entrepreneur Committee. Annual VC Roundtable.

I think the affinity program to help sell member products and in turn fund the NTC has a lot of potential.
-In Progress. We have signed our first program member. Look for this announcement in the coming days.

Broaden base of industries…all you deal with is Health Care, Security, infrastructure, data…this is an entertainment Community…why are you not focusing on streaming…Hottest, application in the Global Market!
-In Process. We signed a Collaboration agreement with Digital Nashville and we are reaching out to Music, Analytics, Biotech, Publishing, and other industries. We still have work to do. Created an Outreach committee.

Middle Tennessee bemoans the inability to attract talent in IT
-In process. Working on Turning the Tide of Technology Initiative (T3) to retain and attract talent from academic institutions.

Put some personal testimonies out about the value of specific events
-In process. We have drafted a case study about one of the members. We need more. If you are interested in being profile, please contact us.

Thanks for your continued participation with the Nashville Technology Council. If you ever have any suggestions for improvement, please feel free to contact any staff member.

Thanks!
The Nashville Technology Council Team

Hello,

I saw your note re: affinity programs.

My company provides a turnkey , private labeled affinity program(over 25 products/services) for membership based groups such as the NTC. Excellent tool for member recruitment / retention and a new source of non dues revenue for your group.

This would be a great fit for you all. Check out this value added proposition at http://www.membersavings.org
