THE NEXUS GROUP Successfully Achieves SAS 70 Type II Certification
for its Nashville Data Center

NASHVILLE, February 19, 2010 – The Nexus Group, Tennessee’s oldest and largest independent Internet and managed services provider, today announced it has achieved SAS 70 Type II certification of its data center facility in Nashville.  Independent auditors, Gray CPA Solutions, performed the rigorous audit and awarded Nexus with an exception-free SAS 70 Type II certification for the 6 month period ending January 31, 2010.

“It is a great milestone achievement that validates our dedication to providing the highest standards of service to our customers,” said Steve Brugman, CEO of The Nexus Group.  “SAS 70 certification gives our customers confidence that we are providing a high level of security, monitoring and management of their valuable business assets to help them meet the increasing compliance requirements of HIPAA, HITECH, Sarbanes Oxley, Graham Leach Bliley and other legal and regulatory regimes.”

The Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) number 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to validate that a service organization has completed an in-depth review of an organization’s control activities and information technology processes.  The SAS 70 certification process consists of an independent accounting and auditing firm reviewing and examining an organization’s control objectives and activities in the areas of control environment, risk assessment, monitoring, and information and communication systems.  A Type I report describes the service organization’s controls at a specific point in time while the more demanding Type II report not only includes a description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of those controls over a minimum six month period.

Many Nexus clients are able to avoid the time and significant expense of the SAS 70 auditing process by locating their IT infrastructure within the Nucleus data center.  The auditor’s report and opinion letter are available for review by customers, customer auditors, and prospective customers interested in utilizing the services of The Nexus Group.

About the Nexus Group:

The Nexus Group is a trusted managed services provider and safe haven for business applications, data storage, security, high availability and high QoS connectivity.  Founded more than 15 years ago, the Nashville based company has built on their legacy as Tennessee’s oldest and largest independent Internet service provider to become Tennessee’s premier provider of network and data center services with facilities in Knoxville, Memphis and their newly-commissioned flagship facility in Nashville.  Nexus is dedicated to delivering the confidentiality, integrity and availability your customers, employees and business partners demand.

An Interview with Freeborders, Inc.

John Wagster
Executive VP and General Counsel
Freeborders, Inc.

How long have you been in business in Nashville?

Freeborders was founded in 2000 and has had an office in Nashville since that time. We maintain employees on site with many of our customers around the world, but our headquarters is in San Francisco, and we have main offices in New York City, Manchester (UK), Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Wuxi, China.

What does your company or organization do best?

Freeborders provides technology consulting services locally and outsourcing globally specializing in the financial services, health care, travel and high tech industries. We offer a full suite of services encompassing all phases of a product lifecycle including: strategy, design, development, implementation, integration and testing. The thing that separates us from other technology companies is our delivery model, Chindus™, through which we almost always combine a local presence and subject matter expertise with a highly skilled backend in China. We are the only US-based company in China delivering western quality services using western contracts and delivery methods to clients in the US and Europe.

What is one interesting fact about your company?

Freeborders began as a software company licensing a suite of Product Lifecycle Management solutions that we built in our delivery centers in China. We turned to outsourcing when we realized our customers were more interested in using our skilled Chinese developers than they were in licensing our software.

What new technology product or service are you the most excited about?

Freeborders is excited to see the healthcare industry beginning to adopt e-healthcare solutions to handle the crucial functions of healthcare including the transmission of medical information, medical financial data and claims among healthcare providers, payers and patients. Freeborders has considerable experience developing rapid data exchange solutions in the financial services and travel industries and is glad to see the healthcare industry moving in the same direction.

Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?

That’s a tough one. It’s tempting to name business icons and political leaders, but I think I am most impressed by some of the refugees from Rwanda and Sudan who have immigrated to Nashville over the last few years. They have abandoned everything they have ever known to take a chance on a new and better life in the United States. Without exception they learn over time that life in the US can be as difficult or more difficult than what they have experienced in their home countries, but the opportunities here are vastly superior. Also without exception, these new arrivals cite education as the number one determining factor in their ability to assimilate and succeed, and they pursue it with a vengeance. At Freeborders we try to emulate that desire for self-improvement and strive to provide the best possible service for our customers.

NASHVILLE TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL AND DATA MOUNTAIN LLC FORM MARKETING ALLIANCE

Partnership will offer affordable best-in-class cloud-based online data backup and recovery services

to Nashville Technology Council members throughout Tennessee

NASHVILLE, TN., FEBRUARY 11,, 2010 — Nashville Technology Council  (www.technologycouncil.com), representing approximately 400 organizations across the state, and Data Mountain LLC (Data Mountain) (www.DataMountain.com), a leading disaster recovery and data protection firm, announced today the formation of a strategic alliance to offer the LiveVault® Online Data Backup and Recovery Service and other storage-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions to members of the Nashville Technology Council at a discount.  Through this partnership, the Nashville Technology Council and Data Mountain will market and promote Data Mountain’s LiveVault Online Data Backup and Recovery Service to customers as its endorsed solution for secure, online data backup and server disaster recovery.

“Data Mountain’s LiveVault was selected to be in the Nashville Technology Council Marketplace because it offers a proven online data backup and recovery service,” said J. Tod Fetherling, President and CEO, Nashville Technology Council. “The LiveVault Online Data Backup and Recovery Service is an attractive solution for our members because it provides secure data protection, without the hassles of managing the data backup process.  Data Mountain, backed by Iron Mountain Digital, also offers our members the superb customer service experience, which they expect and deserve.”

The LiveVault Online Data Backup and Recovery Service automatically and continuously backs up business and customer data stored on servers via a secure Internet connection in two of the most highly secure facilities in North America. Iron Mountain designed this service for businesses that have primarily relied on in-house tape and disk backups in the past, but now need the less resource-intensive data protection that an online service like LiveVault provides.

Historically, many small and medium size businesses have used traditional tape backup and, in some cases, on-premises disk-to-disk backup to secure their data.  These methods of backup were simply not reliable, were riddled with errors and data did not automatically go offsite.  According to a recent industry study by Storage Magazine, only half of all businesses ever test their backup process for recoverability, and of those that do, an alarming 77 percent found they are unable to fully recover their data from those tapes or disks. Even more frightening, research shows that 50 percent of companies which lose their data in a disaster never re-open for business, and 90 percent are out of business all together within two years. Only LiveVault delivers 100 percent guaranteed data recovery, continuous backups and automatic offsite data protection. As part of this alliance, the Nashville Technology Council will promote LiveVault as its preferred online data backup and recovery solution for its clients.

“Together, Data Mountain’s LiveVault and the Nashville Technology Council will deliver this powerful advantage to members throughout the state:  a cost-effective way of ensuring that critical business and customer data is kept safe from harm and fully recoverable in the event of a disaster,” said Bob Chaput, President and CEO, Data Mountain. “By partnering with the Nashville Technology Council, a trusted name in the community, we are now able to reach hundreds of at-risk companies and ensure that the data they depend on is protected against system failure, virus, human error or other disaster.  We’re delighted to be working with the Nashville Technology Council to offer their members the most convenient and effective way to ensure that critical business data is absolutely safe, always recoverable and in compliance with today’s increasing government regulations.

February Member Spotlight – Sprint

Member Spotlight Story
Sprint
Terrence Brooks, Regional Sales Manager

How long have you been in business in Nashville?
Sprint was founded in 1898 by Cleyson Brown as Brown Telephone Company in Abilene, KS as a competitor the Bell monopoly.  In the more than 100 years that have followed our services have expanded, evolved and revolutionized the telecommunications industry, including the Nashville area for more than 40 years.

What does your company or organization do best?
Sprint offers a comprehensive range of wireless and wireline communication products and service, giving the freedom of mobility to consumers, businesses and government users. Sprint is widely recognized for developing, engineering and deploying many innovative technology solutions. Some examples include: two wireless networks, the first and only 4G service from a national U.S. carrier, industry-leading mobile-data services, instant national and international push-to-talk capabilities, and a global Tier 1 Internet backbone.

What is one interesting fact about your company?

Sprint knows that many of our customers are looking for companies that they can respect and trust. We are widely recognized as a leading company in the area of corporate social responsibility. A great example of this is our commitment to environmental stewardship. By making environmental responsibility a priority, we’ve been able to set aggressive but achievable energy-reduction goals and come to market with impressive, eco-friendly products like the award-winning Samsung Reclaim. In fact, Newsweek recently named us #15 on their list of the 500 most eco-friendly U.S. companies; we were the only telecom company to make it into the top 100.

What new technology product or service are you the most excited about?
There’s no doubt that Sprint is the leader when it comes to 4G. Just like we were the first national wireless carrier to launch 3G nationwide, we’re now the first to launch 4G. We’ve delivered on our promise to offer the next generation of wireless services by currently offering 4G in 27 cities, with more coming in 2010.

Sprint 4G represents a shift in the way people will use mobile devices and a glimpse of the future of wireless technology. Think about those things you do on your home or office computer – streaming video, fast file downloads, turbo-charged Web browsing, high-bandwidth business applications. Sprint 4G customers can enjoy those same services wirelessly, so they’ll get a blazing fast broadband experience whether they’re working at a remote location, in the park, sitting in their favorite restaurant, or as a passenger on the freeway or public transportation.

How do you differentiate yourself from your leading competitors?
Sprint offers customers the most freedom, the best value and more simplicity than our competitors. Our pricing plans are clear and affordable – without all of the unexpected add-ons that other carriers charge. For instance, our popular Everything Data plan (starting at $69.99) already includes features like unlimited text, picture and video messaging; unlimited Web browsing and social networking; Any Mobile Anytime (providing unlimited calling to any other U.S. mobile phone, regardless of carrier); unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7 p.m. (two hours earlier than competitors); unlimited GPS navigation; and exclusive applications like NFL Mobile and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile.

Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?
It’s hard to narrow it down to just one, however I have had two memorable meetings with people I hold in high regard, Tony Dungy (First African-American NFL Head Coach to win a Super Bowl) and Jeff Immelt (Chairman & CEO of General Electric).  Tony stands out in my mind for his unrelenting values towards humanity, family and his faith.  He is one of the few people I have met that allows who he is personally to translate with full transparency to his professional life.  Jeff because at the time I met him he was leading GE Healthcare and going through that 2 year evaluation period that Jack Welch underwent to find a successor.  You could just tell that Jeff had “it” and really wanted the opportunity to lead a multinational conglomerate.  These meetings have shaped many facets of my career as an executive with Sprint and I often reflect on these encounters and their readings for continued guidance.

FiledBy Launches 50 New Category Websites in a Major Expansion of its Author/Reader Platform into Vertical Niches

FiledBy Launches 50 New Category Websites in a Major Expansion of its Author/Reader Platform into Vertical Niches
Thousands of Sub-Category Pages Also Deployed Providing a Unique Organization of Authors, Contributors and Their Books

Nashville, Tenn., January 25, 2010 – FiledBy (http://www.filedby.com/), the leading online directory of authors, writers, illustrators, photographers, editors, translators and other book contributors, today announced a significant expansion of its online platform into fifty main category websites (http://www.filedby.com/categories/), which include more than three thousand sub-categories organized by the book industry BISAC code structure. Information about authors, contributors and books published or imported into North America has been indexed, linked together and organized into the new category sites for easy search and discovery. This first-time-ever organization of authors by the categories in which they publish will facilitate a wide range of connections among authors and their readers.

FiledBy’s innovative category sites now provide a vertical view of authors and their work and further organize the activity of authors into the categories in which they publish. The new websites aggregate activity taking place on individual FiledBy author sites according to relevant categories and display the activity as authors and their collaborators customize their online presence with photographs, biographies, videos, podcasts, documents and links to other locations like blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and custom author websites. Authors and contributors can locate their work, register with FiledBy, claim a pre-assembled website that already includes all of an author’s work and build an effective online marketing platform with easy to use tools. And now that the aggregation of author-related activity is arranged by subject category, FiledBy becomes an even more compelling place for an author to bring and share audiences.

“We launched FiledBy nine months ago based on the vision that discoverability of books and authors has changed forever due to the impact of the Internet and search,” said Peter Clifton, co-founder and CEO of FiledBy. “We wanted to provide tools that authors and their creative partners could use to easily collect and present authoritative information about themselves and focus on their overall social marketing efforts. To accomplish this, we had to first organize a vast amount of information around the people who create books, rather than simply display the books themselves. Now that information is also available through our category websites.”

“Being able to control, customize and extend this information easily is of increasing value to authors, their collaborative partners and publishers in a world where search dominates discovery and the delivery of digital content intersects with existing information about print books,” said Clifton.

The new FiledBy category websites provide vertical context to authors and their work and provide a foundation on which vertically integrated social marketing and communities can form and grow. The category sites showcase authors as they sign on, highlight popular books and featured authors as well as displaying other author content, including new videos, podcast and documents. Consumer readers can also join FiledBy and build custom bookshelves and author lists on a personal FiledBy website. Readers can ‘friend’ other readers, join author communities, start or join groups and receive email alerts when a favorite author makes changes or updates to their FiledBy site. People who browse the site can now more easily discover authors and books according to the categories in which they have interest, as well as build communities, form groups, share reviews and connect with authors.

Sample Category Sites:
Business and Economics
Technology and Engineering
Gardening

Since launch in April 2009, more than 6,200 authors, illustrators, photographers and other contributors have registered and claimed their FiledBy website. Many authors are now using FiledBy as their primary website because the tools provided are author centric. They can easily add media without the help of a webmaster, and ongoing updates and customizations can be made quickly, easily and from anywhere.

“FiledBy offers authors the tools and services they need to share information and content with readers as well as a solution to the challenges most have when trying to market themselves online today,” said Clifton. “Authors and publishers will now be able to market within these vertical portals, ensuring that they are reaching the right audience and, in turn, selling more books.”

Mike Shatzkin, Founder & CEO of The Idea Logical Company, Inc. and co-founder of FiledBy commented, “I have long preached that verticality will be the hallmark of 21st century publishing. I am delighted that FiledBy’s pioneering data organization work has enabled them to facilitate the connection of authors and readers by topic. This will be of increasing value to publishers, authors, readers, and to the communities of interest that are forming everywhere as digital development proceeds and the industry continues to change.”

Brugman added, “Our customers, like forward-looking businesses nationwide, are stepping-up their efforts to protect and leverage business knowledge and the data, connectivity and applications that are essential to business operations and relationships.  As America returns to work, this translates into greater emphasis on contributing to the bottom line, and that’s a priority we know, very well.”

An Interview with Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc.

Posted by: tfetherling  /  Tags: ,  /  Comments: 1

An Interview with Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc.
Edward Stringfellow, President
www.stringfellow.com

What type of company is Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc.?
A technology management, consulting and support provider.  We work with our Clients on an outsourced or project basis to deliver our services.

When was Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc. founded and since that time how has your company grown?
Stringfellow was founded by Edward Stringfellow in 2003 as a one-man operation with $2,000 in start-up capital.  Growth has come by ensuring all our Clients are satisfied with our services and then asking for referrals.  Today we have a pro-active business development function that continues to build on our reputation as a solid technology partner for businesses.

Who are the founders of Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc. and what was their vision for the company?
Edward Stringfellow was the founder, who started the company after completing a successful turnaround of a $20M company’s IT department in one year.  At that point he realized that his approach to technology management and support services would be valuable to Clients of all sizes and industries.  The “vision” was to have the same impact on all the Clients as he had for companies he had worked for directly.

What as a company do you feel is your strongest service or product?
Our strongest service is being dedicated to pro-actively working with our Clients to identify and resolve technology issues.  This is done by having a dedicated group of Service Desk personnel that handling all incoming requests from our Clients.  This is unique to most providers in our business as this group is dedicated to just this function.

Where do you see Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc. in the next ten years?
Our five year plan is to have five offices, 300 clients, 50 employees, and over $10M in revenue.  That said, in ten years we hope have adapted to the technologies of the day and continue to provide outstanding services to our Clients.

What is it about Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc. that places your company above other leading competitors?
We divide our business into three parts, People, Processes, and Technology.  We have developed the optimal balance between these three components so that we can deliver maximum impact for our Clients for their investment.

Specifically we have dedicated Client Services and Service Desk groups that ensure our resources are in-line with the needs of our Clients.  Many technology providers utilize a model where every resource performs every function.  We have found this to be inefficient and un-scalable.  Also we have a huge focus on continuous process improvement and documentation to ensure all our Clients have a repeatable and consistent experience when dealing with our Company.

How would you describe Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc. to a new business entering the Nashville market?
We are an established provider of technology management, consulting, and support services for businesses throughout the US.  As a premium provider of these services we have developed an approach that allows us to understand our Clients needs and then deliver the “right” technology management and support services on a consistent and repeatable basis.

As a new business coming to the Nashville area what do you want the general public to know about your company?
That we are the premium provider of technology management and support services in Nashville market.  Our unique focus on the balance between people, processes, and technology has allowed us to have tangible business impacts for all our Clients.

What drew your company to Nashville and what do you hope to gain by starting a business here?
Nashville is a very diverse city with a growing base of businesses.  It is also centrally located in the Southeast where we are opening our satellite offices.

What strategies will you use to break into the Nashville market?
First off, providing superior services to all our Clients has led to referrals and more business.  The other strategy is to develop a reputation as a premium provider of these types of services backed by actual Client engagements and case studies.

How, as a company, do you maintain a personal relationship not only with your clients, but also with your employees?
We work with all our Clients on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis on projects, issues, and requests.  All of those interactions are guided by the principle of doing the right thing for every Client.  Our employees are encouraged to work closely together with each other and across teams.  We take the entire company to an offsite event once a quarter to foster “out of office” knowledge and relationships.

Your company has been a member of the Nashville Technology Council since June of 2009. What made you join the NTC, and what has kept you a member?
We wanted to join the NTC after establishing our Client base in the market and developing our unique set of business delivery processes.  The NTC membership will now allow us to get a more formal affiliation of the technology scene in Nashville.

How significant is the NTC in the future endeavors of your company? If not, how can the council be of better use to Stringfellow Technology Group, Inc.?
The NTC hopefully will become an outlet for us to connect with and share our experiences with other technology companies in the area.  Also our association with the NTC should raise our profile to both new and existing businesses looking for a technology provider in this market.
