NASHVILLE, Tenn. – January 5, 2012 – The Nashville Technology Council announced release of its Technology Hiring Trends Report for the fourth quarter of 2011today. The Report was created to provide insights into recruitment for Middle Tennessee’s technology job sector and shows the needs of a pivotal portion of the local and regional economy.  The Report was generated from public job postings on large job portals (i.e. CareerBuilder, Monster, etc.), specialty technology sites (i.e. Dice), and local employer sites.

Research concludes that 1,044 technology-related jobs were available in the Middle Tennessee area during the fourth quarter of 2011; up 12% from third quarter results. However, Tennessee as a whole showed a slight decrease (-2%) in open tech positions during the quarter to 1,410.  The highest number of openings for the quarter came from the health care sector – Vanderbilt University, Community Health Systems (CHS), United Health Group, and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).   When compared on an annual basis, Middle Tennessee experienced the highest number of open technology positions advertised in 2011, with a factor of 5 to 1 over the Memphis area, and almost 10 to 1 over the Knoxville and Chattanooga regions.

The NTC also announced today that the Report is now being sponsored by teknetex.  “The demand for technology professionals in Middle Tennessee has been a boon to our jobs market over the past three years.  This strong focus on technology has increased the area’s recognition nationally as a leader in the industry.  The recruitment, development and growth of tech talent continue to be integral parts to the success of Tennessee,” states John Kepley, Principal and CEO at teknetex.  Mr. Kepley also serves on the NTC Board of Directors and Co-Chairs NTC’s Technology Workforce and Education Committee.  He goes on to say, “It’s a natural fit for teknetex to sponsor this important Report. The NTC is creating an awareness of the needs and challenges inherent in this growth, so we are proud to partner with them to build both careers and businesses in our community.  Getting this information in the forefront of people’s minds help connect the right talent with the right opportunities.”

In addition to job openings, the Report also highlights specific job types and programming languages that are in demand.  The most prevalent tech position title advertised in Middle Tennessee during the fourth quarter was Developer; with Analyst positions remaining in high demand.  .Net remains at the top of the list in middle Tennessee, with JAVA and SQL requirements seeing significant increases both locally and statewide.

“The data in this Report points to the robustness of Middle Tennessee’s tech community.  It is a testament to our region’s strong economy, successful corporate recruitment and retention efforts, and growing the entrepreneurial community,” states Liza Lowery Massey, President and CEO of the NTC.  She goes on to say, “On the other hand, the NTC, along with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and state and local elected officials, are all working together to expand the pool of tech talent to meet our region’s needs.  Efforts such as targeted talent recruitment outside the Nashville area, accelerated tech skills development for under-employed workers and people wishing to change career fields, and programs to ensure our tech workers’ skills remain current are all part of a comprehensive strategy to meet Middle Tennessee’s tech talent needs.  The collaborative efforts are being done in conjunction with NTC’s successful tech workforce and education initiative that supports organically growing and expanding our local pipeline of tech talent by working with our educational system.”

With a vision to help Middle Tennessee become known worldwide as a leading technology community, the Nashville Technology Council is devoted to helping the Middle Tennessee tech community succeed. Membership is open to technology companies, technology employers, service providers, educational institutions, and non-profit companies interested in supporting the growth of technology businesses in Middle Tennessee.  Since its formation in 1999, the NTC’s membership has grown to more than 400 organizations representing over 20,000 tech professionals in the region.  NTC programs and events include technology round tables, educational initiatives, technology conferences, a tech scholarship program, a technology job bank and other activities designed to foster Nashville’s technology community. BE HELPFUL. That is the mission statement at teknetex. It is how we add value to the companies that allow us to serve them and to the professionals who trust us with their careers. We understand that businesses are looking for a talent acquisition partner who does more than just matches acronyms on resumes to job requirements. Our clients need a talent acquisition partner who understands their business, and, as a result, can provide them with the unique and customized solutions they demand.   For us to be successful, it is critical that we learn about our client’s corporate structure, their products, their history, and their future. After all, the human capital solutions we provide will be a part of that history, and we have to get it right. It is not merely an exercise in resume volume to see what sticks, but rather a precisely targeted human capital solution that directly impacts our clients’ business.  Success also means that we understand all we can about the professionals who trust us with their careers. Beyond the requisite functional and technical aptitude, we always know what our candidates want to do – not just what they can do. This can occasionally be a fine line, but it is always a clear line – one that sets us apart.    teknetex is about people. The right fit, the first time.
