THE NEXUS GROUP Successfully Achieves SAS 70 Type II Certification
for its Nashville Data Center

NASHVILLE, February 19, 2010 – The Nexus Group, Tennessee’s oldest and largest independent Internet and managed services provider, today announced it has achieved SAS 70 Type II certification of its data center facility in Nashville.  Independent auditors, Gray CPA Solutions, performed the rigorous audit and awarded Nexus with an exception-free SAS 70 Type II certification for the 6 month period ending January 31, 2010.

“It is a great milestone achievement that validates our dedication to providing the highest standards of service to our customers,” said Steve Brugman, CEO of The Nexus Group.  “SAS 70 certification gives our customers confidence that we are providing a high level of security, monitoring and management of their valuable business assets to help them meet the increasing compliance requirements of HIPAA, HITECH, Sarbanes Oxley, Graham Leach Bliley and other legal and regulatory regimes.”

The Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) number 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to validate that a service organization has completed an in-depth review of an organization’s control activities and information technology processes.  The SAS 70 certification process consists of an independent accounting and auditing firm reviewing and examining an organization’s control objectives and activities in the areas of control environment, risk assessment, monitoring, and information and communication systems.  A Type I report describes the service organization’s controls at a specific point in time while the more demanding Type II report not only includes a description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of those controls over a minimum six month period.

Many Nexus clients are able to avoid the time and significant expense of the SAS 70 auditing process by locating their IT infrastructure within the Nucleus data center.  The auditor’s report and opinion letter are available for review by customers, customer auditors, and prospective customers interested in utilizing the services of The Nexus Group.

About the Nexus Group:

The Nexus Group is a trusted managed services provider and safe haven for business applications, data storage, security, high availability and high QoS connectivity.  Founded more than 15 years ago, the Nashville based company has built on their legacy as Tennessee’s oldest and largest independent Internet service provider to become Tennessee’s premier provider of network and data center services with facilities in Knoxville, Memphis and their newly-commissioned flagship facility in Nashville.  Nexus is dedicated to delivering the confidentiality, integrity and availability your customers, employees and business partners demand.

Is Infrastructure Sexy?

When you think about the need to have a solid core to build technology solutions on, infrastructure looks very sex.  In this segment, we will focus on data centers as part of our overall infrastructure story in Nashville.

I am excited to report that what was weakness in the Nashville market last year is now a strength for us.  Several of our existing data center providers have expanded their space and capacity.  Data Centers are the hub of technology growth.  With office space at premium, physical security concerns, and companies needing to squeeze every dime out of their budgets, server virtualization, the sourced data center becomes a viable option.

I spoke to a few of the local data center experts and received their take on how Nashville is positioned for future infrastructure needs. Continue Reading →
