PRESS RELEASE:
NTC Works with Partners to Address HIT Workforce Shortage

Thought Leadership Article Released at Recent HIMSS Summit of the Southeast

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – October 11, 2011 – The Nashville Technology Council today announced release of a thought leadership article focusing on workforce needs in the healthcare information technology sector. The article, presented at the 2011 HIMSS Summit of the Southeast recently, is the result of a two-year effort that involved numerous community and business stakeholders working to identify solutions to fill the increasing number of local HIT jobs. The study was initiated at a 2010 Health Care IT Workforce Solutions Forum, where panels of leading health care executives discussed the need to organically grow a local workforce to support the healthcare industry.

Through a partnership with the Nashville Healthcare Council, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and KPMG, the article Strategies to Address the Health Care Information Technology Workforce Shortage was developed. Liza Lowery Massey, President and CEO of Nashville Technology Council, commented, “The collaborative approach that resulted in this valuable document sets the stage for similar joint efforts to address Nashville’s workforce needs. It is a challenge that we all face together if we wish to continue to enjoy and grow our vibrant economy.”

The Nashville Technology Council is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping the Middle Tennessee technology community succeed. Membership is open to technology companies, technology employers, service providers, educational institutions, and non-profit companies interested in supporting the growth of technology businesses and those businesses that rely on technology in Middle Tennessee. We would like to welcome the visitors who will be in Music City this next week.  CMA Music Festival and Bonnaroo occur  this week.  Two of the largest music festivals in the country.  Please welcome these visitors.  We are very thankful to have so many people downtown, which will really help the downtown merchants rebound from the Flood.
If you happen to meet any of these individuals and they are in the tech field, help me recruit them for one of the many tech jobs we have open in the city.  Today, there are over 800 job openings in our technology community.  From programmers to business analyst to CIOs, we need more talent to fill these positions.
Traffic may be a little busier than normal, so be courteous to our visitors and let’s make them feel welcome.  Maybe they will stay for life.

Nashville Tech Jobs- The Report

Posted by: admin  /  Tags: , , , , ,

Today we released a study conducted in partnership with Vaco Technology on the state of technology jobs in Middle Tennessee for the third quarter of 2010. This report, released once a quarter, provides a consistent format for reporting on open job positions.  It includes top tech employers, most popular job positions, and trending data points.  One thing is clear: Nashville is poised to gain traction as one of the leading tech centers in the nation.  In particular we are leading Healthcare IT (HIT), transactions, digital media, and start-up enterprises.

In Greater Nashville, there are more tech jobs than there are people to fill them. The Nashville Technology Council is focused on a three level pipeline for talent growth:

* T3 – Organic growth through local high schools and universities
* Professional Development (Courseware for Career Transition)
* Economic Development (Individuals and Companies)

The Nashville Technology Council spearheads the T3 Initiative to help our local students connect with opportunity and support their academic needs. Our partners at the Nashville Health Care Council and Nashville Chamber of Commerce work with us on events such as the Health Care IT Workforce Solutions Forum to address the gap between skills desired in our local IT grads and the myriad career opportunities in their own backyard.   What else can we do to strengthen our existing workforce, encourage companies to relocate and create the next generation of Techville?  Leave us your comments below and let us know what you think we can do as a tech community to address these issues.

You can review the press release on our Q3 2010 Hiring Trends Report here and download the report in its entirety here.

NASHVILLE TECHNOLOGY JOB GROWTH CONTINUES

Research Reveals 892 Openings in Technology in Q2.  112% Increase from Q1.

The Nashville Technology Council today announced the release of its Q2 2010 Technology Hiring Trends Report.  After extensive research, the report reveals over 892 technical jobs available in the Middle Tennessee area.  The report was generated from public job postings from large job portals (i.e. CareerBuilder, Monster, etc.), specialty technology sites (i.e. Dice) and local employer sites.

The highest number of openings came from enterprise health care technology companies: Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Deloitte (D), and Community Health Systems (CHS).   In addition, other local industry heavyweights like music, publishing, manufacturing, and transactions continue to post job openings in technology.

The most prevalent technology positions are in software development.  Development is followed by Management, Analyst, Web Developers, and Network Engineers.  In addition to job openings, the report also illustrates programming languages that are most needed in the today’s technology industry.  .Net, Java, C#, and PHP are in highest demand for potential employees, as well as SQL database positions.

“Technology rebounded quickly as an industry in the second quarter.  In particular tech jobs in healthcare, digital content, publishing, and transactions,” said J. Tod Fetherling, President/CEO of Nashville Technology Council. “Nashville’s technology community has many exciting new opportunities for employment.”

The Nashville Technology Council also announced a partnership with Vaco to help fund and support the on-going job research initiative.  The two organizations will begin investigating a statewide initiative for the technology job report.

Join us today at Technology Nashville at the Curb Center where we will be discussing this and many more exciting areas of Nashville’s Technology Community.
