GFIRST National Conference

The 7th Annual GFIRST National Conference began yesterday at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel &
Convention Center here in Nashville. The conference isAugust 7th thru 12th, and features top
information security professionals and government officials.

What is GFIRST?
GFIRST (Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) is a group of technical and tactical
practitioners from incident response and security response teams responsible for securing government
information technology systems and providing private sector support. GFIRST members work together to
understand and handle computer security incidents and to encourage proactive and preventative security
practices across government agencies. GFIRST promotes cooperation among the full range of Federal, State
and local agencies, including defense, civilian, intelligence, and law enforcement.

The conference is FREE to attend. We would love to hear your thoughts on the Conference if you attended

The BizTalk Community is the next step in the evolution of the traditional User Group. It is a fusion of in-person BizTalk User Group and modern social media—allowing broader collaboration, separated by space and time. But throughout the process, we still want it to be a Community, somewhere where you belong.

We have been discussing all things BizTalk in our meetings thus far and will continue to do so. Planned Topics include:

8/3 How to process HIPAA and NCPDP via BTS : In this session we’ll discuss the ins-and-outs of managing healthcare Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) with BizTalk extensions. We will highlight WPC’s approach of verbose naming in XML schemas, which improves business analyst-developer communication.

9/7 Claim splitting: Using BizTalk to route claims to different adjudication systems: In this session we’ll look at the problem of directing HL7 claims to different systems, during cutover periods. This pattern works well in just about any situation where you need to cut over from one message processing solution to another (and want to run for a period of time in parallel).

Incentive Plan to Boost Employment

On Tuesday night, Members of Metro Council voted on incentive plans with the goal of creating jobs. The bills are part of the Dean administration’s economic recovery effort. It’s exciting to see Metro City Council’s Incentive Plans To Boost Employment at a time when the city is looking to attract new talent. There was also a recent article in the Nashville Post which address the fact that Nashville does not presently have the workers to fill these jobs. With 900 new tech-related jobs being added in the next few years, some wonder where the workers to fill those jobs are going to come from?

As you know, the NTC just launched NashHire which has been gaining momentum. We hope this is one way to start getting the word out to a broad audience that “Nashville is Hiring”.

“It’s so exciting to hear about all of the technology jobs moving to Nashville,” said Tori Lennon, Manager, National Talent Acquisition for Healthways. “One of the ways to meet this demand will be through stronger partnerships with colleges and universities across the country. It’s going to be more important than ever for Nashville employers and technology associations to have a presence with these schools. Nashville has so much to offer and it’s important that we get the word out to students and offer opportunities to complete technology related internships with local companies. Through internships, companies have the opportunity to begin building a pipeline of future IT talent that will already know the organization and bring immediate value to the job. It’s also going to be important for companies to champion social networking as a recruiting method. This is the quickest way to get the word out on both the local and national level about job opportunities in Nashville.”

IQT Inc., a business process outsourcing firm, plans to open a technical-services center in downtown Nashville that would generate up to 900 new jobs, according to sources and media reports.

Nashville Technology Council announces resignation of Fetherling

Nashville, TN—May 23, 2011 –The Nashville Technology Council Board of Directors announced today the resignation of J. Tod Fetherling as President/CEO of the Nashville Technology Council, a position he held for two and a half years. Fetherling will be leaving to pursue a new entrepreneurial venture. He will remain with the organization through June 30, 2011 and will continue to be involved with the Technology Council. The Board of Directors has initiated a search to secure Fetherling’s replacement and will work closely with the staff to ensure a smooth transition.

During his tenure, Fetherling built upon previous efforts to create many new programs and take the organization to higher levels of achievement and expand the council’s involvement and reach. “I want to personally thank Tod for his hard work over the past two and a half years. We are approaching $1million in annual revenues and serve a membership base of around 400 companies across a wide spectrum of industries and company sizes in Middle Tennessee with a goal of reaching 500 companies soon”, said Andy Flatt, Board Chair. Flatt added, “The NTC is on solid footing as a result of Tod’s leadership and strategic vision. We wish him every success in his new venture.”
